Pupper Visits the Lake

If there’s one thing we love, it’s a hot, gooey, cheesy, spicy sandwich. If there’s another thing we hate with equal intensity, it’s the inability to enjoy said goodness because it’s only available Monday through Friday between the working hours of something ridiculous like 9am and 3pm — when one (or both) of us are more than likely at work. And don’t even think about suggesting we take one of these sandwiches “to-go” because soggy bread ruins everything.

So when the opportunity came on a random weekday somewhere between Christmas and New Years to finally devour our all-time favorite CHEZ NOUS spicy chicken sandwich, we decided to swoop up the pup and carpe diem.

No time for pictures of food — it came and disappeared too quickly. We did, however, try a cup of their soup while we waited for them to prep their chicken this time around. It was a cold day and a hot cup warmed us right up! Bagel behaved nicely, sniffing around, doing some torpedos, and even left his mark in a nearby planter.

After lunch was devoured, we were off to the lake!

MIRAMAR LAKE was buzzing with activities for a little pup Bagel’s size. The geese were out squealing, but he wasn’t too interested in them - moreso the flushing of the toilets in a nearby bathroom than anything.

We took him over to the docks to look at the ducks but he didn’t care too much for them either. What a peculiar little pup.

We started on a little stroll and he was more interested in sniffing the succulents than anything, per usual. 🙄

He didn’t manage to get too far before finding a nice bush to crawl into for a nice dump.

The runners piqued his interest, however, and he tried to bark at some as they finished off their 5 mile runs. Hopefully the sight of a tiny shibe made their final sprint a little easier.

After some more sniffing in the wood chips and mulch (a much more familiar territory for him), he rested up with some views of the lake and trotted on back to the car. I guess he was ready to go home??

Then he fell asleep sitting in the car (and in my arms!) and it was the most adorable thing. ♥︎

Currently as I write this, Bagel’s at the vet getting fixed! Fingers and toes crossed his procedure goes smoothly without complications and that his recovery is speedy and undramatic. Hopefully we don’t run into any issues when he comes home and I’m hoping he has an appetite and doesn’t have any issues getting to the potty while he recovers and while the meds wear off. We shall see. 🙏🏼

By the time this post goes up though, hopefully he’ll be well on his way to returning to his normal self again since he’ll be on post-op day 4. We’re also getting his teeth cleaned while he’s under since the vet brought up a pretty significant issue with tartar build-up during his first wellness checkup last month. While the chew toys and plaque/tartar prevention products we’ve been using have been helping with his bad breath, his teeth are still pretty mucky so we thought it’d be good to get a clean start and tackle the issue now before it gets any worse (even though he’s just a puppy).

It’s so weird to have the house to myself and to be able to finally tidy things up and tie up all these loose ends without having something running around and worrying about potty time, etc. I had time to run to the store to buy random necessities, put some air in my tires, organize some paperwork, and just mentally re-organize my space — something I haven’t been able to do quietly alone for a while. But I’m anxious to bring the pup back home so I had to get this blog written up :)

Good news - our local dog park re-opened today! Bagel will get to finally utilize it and (hopefully) play nicer with our neighboring doggos as soon as he’s better.
